Mr Old's Garage

The kind where the whole door tilts up or the kind where the door’s segmented and rolls up? I have a cross member 6 feet in back of the opening and 5″ above the top of the door opening. Small old 1 car garage.

Depending on where you live, I would get a door with segmented panels. If you live where it’s extremely hot or cold I’d get one that’s insulated or insulate it after it’s installed. While you’re replacing the door, replace the trim around the door with trim that has vinyl weatherstripping to help keep out drafts, etc.

A sectional door w/ double low headroom track would work just fine. I’ve been in the garage door business since 1978 & have never been a big fan of the one-piece tilt-up doors & there used to be a lot of them in our area.

For one thing they don’t seal very well at all & on some of them you can’t open the door if someone parks a car to close to it on the outside.
